Introducing Trey Clements, the mastermind behind Clements Guitars and a true artisan of the craft. As a luthier—a maker of stringed instruments—Trey’s journey is not just about building guitars; it’s about weaving a narrative of Texas heritage and musical legacy into each meticulously crafted piece.
Roots of Resilience
“Before I had ever begun putting pencil to paper, I knew that I wanted my guitars to display the same courageous spirit that led my ancestors to shape not only their destinies, but that of Texas as well,” Trey reflects. With roots deeply intertwined with the storied past of the Lone Star State, Trey’s guitars are not mere instruments but vessels of homage to the noble history of Texas.
From his days as a member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets to honing his skills at the Galloup School for Guitar Repair and Lutherie, Trey’s dedication to detail and quality shines through in every aspect of his work. “Each guitar is a thousand-step process, and each and every one of those processes has to be perfect,” he emphasizes.
In Trey’s own words, “We are an artisan guitar manufacturer here in Bryan College Station, Texas, dedicated to continuing and honoring the legacy of the people that came before us.” This commitment to heritage resonates in every note produced by a Clements guitar.
The Clements’ Legacy
Trey’s passion for his craft extends beyond the workshop. “My ultimate dream is to be in the stands and seeing a guy wailing on one of my guitars while you have 50,000 people experiencing that euphoria, that catharsis, that release of emotions that that guy can bring through my instrument,” he envisions.
As Bryan-College Station emerges as a cultural hub, Trey sees Clements Guitars as an integral part of the community’s growth. “Bryan has been around for a long time, but I feel like right now we’re starting to find our identity,” he observes. “Hopefully, 25-30 years down the road, people will be able to say that Clements Guitars has been a staple of this growth in the Bryan area.”
With each guitar meticulously crafted, Trey strives to evoke a sense of awe and wonder. “I want to craft something that in 50 years, someone opens up a case, and they’re like oh my gosh, this is the number one Clements,” he expresses. “I want to bring that sense of awe.”
