Clements Guitars Takes the Stage at Record-Breaking Rodeo Performance

Apr 23, 2026 | Bartula, News

When Cody Johnson took the stage at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo last month, it turned into one of those nights people will talk about for a long time. A packed stadium, a record-setting crowd, and a performance that carried the weight of it.

Somewhere in that mix, Jody Bartula was out there playing one of my guitars.

I wasn’t in attendance that night, but I still felt it.

I thought about the stage. The size of the crowd. The kind of moment that every musician grows up imagining. Seeing something you built find its way into that environment is not something that can be taken for granted.

But I also thought about everything else.

A place like NRG Stadium is not forgiving. Everything is bigger, louder, and moving faster. The margin for error is small. When a guitar is out on the road like that, it has to handle more than just the music. It has to deal with travel, changing climates, getting played hard night after night. It has to feel right every time it gets picked up, no matter where it is.

That’s the part that stays with me.

Once it leaves my shop, it’s not really “my guitar” anymore. It belongs to the player. To the road. To moments like that.

There’s something special about knowing a guitar built here can end up on a stage like that and do what it’s supposed to do. Not by standing out for the wrong reasons, but by fitting into the moment and holding its place.

On a night when Cody Johnson set a new record in front of a Texas crowd, I was not there in person, but a small piece of my work was, and that is something I will carry with me forever.
